Opportunity for a guest curator for Kirkcudbright Festival of Light

The Kirkcudbright Festival Management and Partnership Group is seeking to commission a Festival Guest Curator with an international reputation. She or he will help research and programme a high-quality arts festival. In essence, the appointment of Festival Guest Curator is the artistic fulcrum of this project, and will bring all the cultural elements of the planning together.

Some elements of the Festival Programme will be researched and taken forward by the Management and Partnership Group. The Guest Curator is therefore not responsible for the full Festival Programme, but for the “Curated Strand”. Project management support to the Festival and commissioned Festival Guest Curator will be provided by the Kirkcudbright Development Trust.

The Festival is planned to coincide with the opening of the new art gallery – a £3.1m publicly funded, public gallery which will house nationally significant collections in the former town hall – the Festival will take place in October 2018.

The Kirkcudbright Festival of Light aims to create far-reaching outcomes. The proposed legacies are cultural and commercial:-

• To profile Kirkcudbright as beautiful, contemporary artists’ town that is developing in an organic way and that now possesses a national gallery of art.

• To plan, manage and deliver an exemplar International Festival that will act as a basis for future creative ideas in the town.

• To create new and effective partnerships between businesses and galleries in the town that will help promote Kirkcudbright in years to come.
