Kirkcudbright Cycles for Life – A bit of background information about the project

Kirkcudbright Development Trust has successfully applied to the Climate Challenge Fund to operate and manage an exciting community project which aims to reduce carbon emissions. Kirkcudbright Cycles for Life will encourage local people to swap their car for a bicycle for short journey’s. The project will also run training and events which will help people build their confidence (particularly if they haven’t ridden a bike for a number of years) and learn basic skills in maintaining their cycle to keep it in tip-top condition.

The project is keen to work with young people, and will be hosting some fun events over the summer holidays, especially for our younger cyclists.

Kirkcudbright Cycles for Life is also engaging with local businesses to increase the number of people riding bikes to work. Cycle to Work events are being planned, as well as incentive schemes and the facility to loan a bicycle for a period of time to ‘try before you buy’.

The project has worked closely with William Laws in Kirkcudbright, who have advised and sourced a range of cycles for loan, as well as parts and safety equipment.

We look forward to meeting you, sharing ideas, learning together and going out for rides to explore our beautiful countryside and coastline. There will be plenty of opportunities to sample ice-creams, chocolate cake and cups of tea, so let’s get our waterproof jackets out, dust down our bikes and hit the road!
